DownEast Home & Clothing’s “Live for Pink” Sale Raises $29,000 in Honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month

High-style, low-price retailer DownEast Home & Clothing today announced the donation of $29,000 to UCREW, a Utah-based organization striving to decrease the burden of cancer by increasing awareness, education, access to screening and support for cancer patients. This is the third year that DownEast has led a collaborative effort with its staff and customers in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Sale Offers Customers $5 Tees & Camis, 50% of Proceeds Donated to UCREW
This year's donation was generated by a special "Live for Pink" promotional event. Throughout the month of Octo fashion jackets ber, DownEast offered its pink tees and camis (normally priced from $9.99 to $14.99) for only $5 and donated 50 percent of the proceeds to UCREW. DownEast selected UCREW as the beneficiary because of the organization's dedication in Utah communities to increasing cancer awareness, education, access to screening, and support for cancer patients. The majority of patients who find support with UCREW have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Continuing Support for Breast Cancer Inspired by Family & Customers
The people behind DownEast were inspired to dedicate resources toward National Breast Cancer Awareness Month since the disease is so prevalent among women, its core customer base. "Breast cancer affects so many families in a significant, life-changing way," said Klane Murphy, CEO of DownEast. "Many of our own employees have been affected by this disease and we have seen how potentially devastating it can be for individuals and families. Through both our financial and staff support, DownEast is united in an effort with UCREW to offer assistance to enhance the quality of life for those diagnosed with cancer and to help educate others in the community for earlier detection and overall awareness."

In addition to driving funds via the "Live for Pink" sale event, several key DownEast staff members also became directly involved in activities throughout the month, including participating in the first inaugural Pink Half Marathon in honor of the cause, which took place in Park City, Utah. Team photos and details on the race can be found on the DownEast Home & Clothing blog.

DownEast Participates in Yearlong Philanthropic Activities & Outreach
"Giving back to the community has always been a core principle we espouse here at DownEast. The company participates regularly in various philanthropic efforts, most notably our annual breast cancer fundraising effort in October, as well as our support to the sustainable development of a village in Guatemala through CHOICE Humanitarian. DownEast also supports local universities and K-12 schools and various other charitable events and organizations throughout the year," said Jonathan Freedman, Co-Founder and VP of Apparel at DownEast.
